WIFFLE BALL TOURNAMENT

Please share this event with others
Batting for Bradford Wiffle Ball
Tournament is being organized

Ryan Bradford was a great softball fan -- and player! A Caesar Rodney High School student, he passed away last June at Children's Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.

SPECIAL OLYMPIAN. As a Special Olympian, he often practiced softball on the field next to Wesley College's DuPont Softball Field, Dover, DE, where the Wesley Wolverines practice and play their home games.

At times, the Special Olympians and our Wolverines have worked-out and played softball games together.

AVID SPORTS FAN/ PLAYER. Ryan was a big fan of Wesley Wolverine senior #9 P/OF Lily Engel (Dover, DE), for whom you could hear him cheering at college, travel-ball and high school games. His sister, Katelyn, a standout softball player herself, played fastpitch at PolyTech High with both Lily and Wesley Wolverine junior #4 MI/OF Samantha Burns (Magnolia, DE).

"Batting for Bradford Wiffle Ball Tournament"
will be held at Caesar Rodney High School,
Saturday, October 15 at 10:30 AM. Donations
are $50 per six-player team. All ages and
abilities are welcome. All proceeds go
directly to Special Olympics of Delaware
in Ryan Bradford's name. Click here to
download the registration form.

Ryan was great fun to be around. He was always happy, cheerful and enthusiastic, fully involved in everything he undertook. Besides softball, he played soccer, basketball and bowled. He also was the manager for Caesar Rodney High's Boys & Girls soccer program.

BATTING FOR BRADFORD. Ryan is being remembered this fall with a special sports event entitled "Batting for Bradford Wiffle Ball Tournament" at Caesar Rodney High School, Saturday, October 15 at 10:30 AM. Donations are $50 per six-player team. All ages and abilities are welcome. All proceeds go directly to Special Olympics of Delaware in Ryan's name. Click here to download the Wiffle Ball Tourney registration form.

Later this winter, the 1st Annual "Ryan's High Five" 5K run/ walk & mile fun walk is being organized for Sunday, November 13, 2016, at 9:00 AM, at the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department, Magnolia, DE. Click here to download the 5K Run entry form.

MEET 2017 FRESHMEN

Meet the fastpitch Wolverine freshmen!

It's a large freshman softball class -- 5 players! Together they have every position covered by their primary and secondary roles: a pitcher, two catchers, two utility, an infielder, shortstop, third base, and if fall-ball is any indication, several can snag a ball driven deep into the outfield, too.

THEIR HOMETOWNS. Usually, there is at least one Delawarean represented. Not this year. There's a Floridian from Cooper City while the rest are Marylanders from across the Chesapeake Bay, hailing from Baltimore, Hagerstown, Fallston and Leonardtown.

THEIR MAJORS. Their class schedules are on diverse paths. They are pursuing degrees in five very different majors: Environmental Science (Allison), Sports Management (Karina), Media Communications (Brooke), Law and Justice (Alyssa), and Physical Education K-12 (Autumn).

THEIR DIRECTION. Their sports resolve, however, is one path: a commitment to
team and being the next wave of winning Wolverine fastpitch softball!

FASTPITCH DREAMS

March 4-11, 2017
Wolverines spring schedule
adds Fastpitch Dreams games

The Wesley Wolverines softball team will be headed to the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic for eight days, Saturday through Saturday, March 4-11, 2017, in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Head Coach Juli Greep has made an early commitment (click here to check out sign-up #3!), joining 74 other early registrations so far from colleges across the nation.

Fastpitch Dreams 2016

Through last spring's 2016 Fastpitch Dreams schedule, 90 college teams played 326 games over 21 days without a single rain-out. For fans unable to travel to these South Carolina games, the tournament offers live online video streaming (at a charge) for all the contests.

Wolverines 2014

The Wolverines are familiar with these North Myrtle Beach games. In the 2014 season, Wesley battled to a 7-3 won-loss record when the Wolverines helped open the then brand-new beautiful North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex, where the team will return next March 2017.

"Best complex"!

The park's website boasts of having "the best complex" and "best dirt & grass turf in the southeast." The tournament directors quote online from our Coach Greep as stating: "I just first wanted to thank you for a wonderful week, and we couldn't have asked for better weather. The tournament and accommodations were topnotch."

Wolverines 2015

In 2015, Wesley returned to Fastpitch Dreams to win an impressive 8 of 9 games at the tourney, a year the team also set the school record for most wins in a season. (Last year, 2016, the Wolverines traveled farther south to compete in The Spring Games, Clermont, Florida.)

MARCANO FALL BALL PHOTOS

182 new shots from Catonsville!
Jose Marcano fall-ball photos capture
the high spirits of the 2017 Wolverines!

Nice pictures!

As he always does, Jose Marcano has contributed fall-softball photos of the Wesley Wolverines in action at their triple-header last Saturday, September 24, in Catonsville, MD. Click here to view 182 of his shots.

Jose is the father of Wesley Wolverine senior #18 C Nina Marcano (Middletown, DE).

Jose is entering his fourth season snapping digital shots of the Wolverine games. He has experienced many challenging days while photographically chronicling the Wesley squad.

Through the years, Jose and his camera, like the team, has labored under extreme heat and bright sunlight, worked through bitter cold and overcast skies as well as endured on/off stormy weather and, too often, biting wind.

However, last Saturday posed a new, huge challenge for picture taking. Even with perfect weather, the sharp slopes and awkwardly positioned stands surrounding the unusual CCBC field -- uniquely cut into the side of a hill -- made photography extremely difficult.

For our Wolverine players, it must have been a beautiful sight on a field surrounded by a gorgeous sylvan setting. However, capturing the day's action on a memory card was entirely a different matter, requiring bending over fences, squatting on the ground and standing wearily on heights to get the right shots.

Take a look at Jose's great photographs. You'll see he more than rose to the occasion!

The Wesley Wolverines played exceptionally well on Saturday, September 24, in the fall-ball triple-header kickoff of the 2017 fastpitch collegiate season. Besides the obvious talent on the field, the players seem a close team, especially supportive of each other.

Yesterday, literally hundreds of photos were taken of the three games by both this blog and Jose Marcano.

Right now, we are posting the  processed blog photos from the first game only. Click here to view 117 action shots. Still to come are a great deal more photos, many also from the first game taken by Mr. Marcano, plus shots from the second and third games, too.
