The Wesley softball coaches are...

HEAD COACH JULI GREEP (Juli.Greep@Wesley.edu
or 302-736-2302 )

Instantly changing the culture of the Wesley softball program, Coach Greep led Wesley to one of the largest turnarounds in the Nation in 2012. In 2015 Coach Greep and her Wolverines compiled a 23-12 season, shattering virtually every school record in history. Under her tutelage, Ashlyn Hare(Booth) also had one of the finest offensive seasons in program history and earned All-CAC, All ECAC and NFCA All-Region honors. In doing so, Booth was the first Wolverine to earn NFCA honors since 2007. In the 2013-2016 seasons 7 additional Wolverines have been named CAC players of the week as well as 5 receiving All Conference nods in Pitcher Lindsay Siok, OF Steph Caracozza, DP Kayla Fromal(2x’s), Catcher Nina Marcano and Utility Sam Burns.

ASSISTANT COACH
BROOKE DONOVAN

A four year starter for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, Coach Donovan contributed 34 doubles, 10 HR, 65 RBI, and scored a career 100 runs. She was named to the 2012 Big South All-Tournament Team after helping guide Coastal to its sixth Big South tournament championship.

ASSISTANT COACH

ASHYLN HARE

A former stand out on the Wesley softball team, Coach Hare has returned to help guide the Lady Wolverines. Coach Hare was a 2x All CAC selection, NFCA All-Region and ECAC selection. She compiled a .385 batting average, 11 HR and contributed 55 RBI’s in her two seasons after an illustrious career at Del Tech CC.

2017 SEASON SCHEDULE

Spring season
Competitive schedule
for Wolverines in 2017

Looking ahead at the 2017 tentative spring softball games, the Wesley Wolverines have a busy schedule compressed into eight weeks.

Much can change as the season nears – and weather can always disrupt and rearrange plans mid-season, too – but as it stands now, the Wolverines will have a total of 40 REGULAR season games: 16 home games and 24 away games (including 8 played at Myrtle Beach, SC). This totals 8 single games and 16 doubleheaders (one of which is played under the lights) contested in five states: Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.

Depending on final standings, there also may be Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) or Eastern College Athletic Conference (NCAC) playoff games, which are scheduled at the season's conclusion.

STARTS WITH A D2 CONTEST!

The season is launched with a big D2 game – the only one on the schedule – when the Wesley Wolverines kick off the 2017 season on Saturday, February 25 with a doubleheader against the Lincoln University Lions.

Next day, the Wolverines will be on the road to the beautiful “Main Line” Philadelphia environs for a Sunday, February 26 doubleheader with the Swarthmore College Garnet.

MYRTLE BEACH
SPRING BREAK!

These first two games may be cold, often with a biting wind this early in the year, but that will all change very fast.

The next weekend, the team is bound for sunny, warm Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for eight games over eight days, Saturday, March 4 through Saturday, March 11. It's home of the D1 Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers (not on the Wolverine's schedule, of course!), where Wolverine Assistant Coach Brooke Donovan set a school record of 234 games played during her undergraduate days.

The Myrtle Beach game times and teams to play will be announced early in 2017.

FACULTY
APPRECIATION DAY!

The Wolverines return home for Monday classes, March 13, and a doubleheader at the DuPont Softball Field on the next day, Tuesday, March 14, with the Immacuata University Mighty Macs. These games also are a Faculty & Staff Recognition day where a player invites a Wesley mentor who has been a particularly positive influence to be honored on the field.

Then its back on the road again for two doubleheaders over the weekend, Saturday/ Sunday, March 18/19 into the eastern and across to central Pennsylvania for matches against the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions and Juniata College Eagles.

FIRST
CONFERENCE GAMES!

The following weekend, it gets real serious on Saturday, March 25, with the first Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest of the season via a doubleheader at home against a team often ranked in the top five across the nation, the Christopher Newport University Captains.

NIGHT GAMES
ON THE ROAD!

On Sunday, March 26, the Delaware Valley University Rams visit the Wesley campus for what’s always a competitive doubleheader.

Then, Tuesday, March 28, the Wolverines head off to play the Arcadia University Knights for a doubleheader at 6:00 and 8:00 PM under the lights! It's the only night games of the season.

DEEP INTO CONFERENCE GAMES & SENIOR DAY!

Wesley's back home, Friday, Saturday, and Monday, March 31, April 1, and April 3 for a trio of doubleheaders against two conference opponents, the Southern Virginia Knights and the Frostburg State University Bobcats, as well as another Penn State Nittany Lion visit, this time from the Brandywine campus.

The Knights always boast the CAC team with the greatest geographical representation on their squad. Also, they are the only conference team with an undergraduate enrollment smaller than Wesley's student body.

The Bobcats will be in town for a special Wolverine contest: It's the Senior Day celebration!

EIGHT GAMES AWAY!

Enjoy the home-stand, because next, the Wolverines play four conference doubleheader away.

First, it's happening at the brand new stadium of the always nationally ranked Salisbury University Sea Gulls on Wednesday, April 5. The Sea Gulls are traditional rivals and just an hour down Route 13 into Maryland from the Wesley College campus.

Saturday, April 8, it a far longer expedition to Mary Washington University Eagles and their spectacular sports complex, as well, followed by a real trek on Friday, April 14, into the Pennsylvania mountains for the conference Penn State Harrisburg games.

Next day, Saturday, April 15, the Wolverines will contend against the York College Spartans on another unique field where spectators sit on stands built on a hill overlooking home plate.

FINAL GAMES, PINK GAMES!

In the last games of the regular season, Wesley hosts Eastern University Eagles on Wednesday, April 18, for the official Pink Games' fight against cancer.

Depending on the Wolverines conference standings, it's back to books and final exams – and maybe a playoff schedule to finish out the spring season.

ALYSSA ZIMMERMAN PROFILE

Alyssa Zimmerman leans on father
for guiding advice & as a role model

Wesley Wolverine freshman catcher Alyssa Zimmerman (Hagerstown, MD) introduces herself...

Alyssa, a catcher, with her

best friend of 10 years,
Savannah,

who, as a pitcher,
forms the

other end of this battery.
"Hello. My name is Alyssa Zimmerman and I am from Hagerstown, Maryland.

"I graduated from Clear Spring High School in Clear Spring, Maryland as a part of the class of 2016.

"I aspire to have a degree in Law and Justice in the fall of 2020.

"After college, I plan to move to Charleston, South Carolina and begin my dream job as a forensic psychologist.

"On the field, catching is my passion. While I know the outfield well, catching will always be my main focus.

"I was awarded best defensive player my sophomore year, and made second team all county my sophomore and senior years.

Alyssa with her travel-ball team, PA Lady Steel (Chambersburg , PA).
"Wesley is more diverse and cultured than where I've lived my whole life, and I'm excited to meet new people and try new things.

"I'm overly excited to make new friends, but I'll never forget my roots. My family means everything to me, and spending time with them is always cherished.

"This past summer my family and I went on numerous vacations and camping trips together.

Alyssa frames a hard thrown pitch for the outside corner!

"On one of our camping trips when I was about 7 or 8, my father gave me advice that has stuck close to me ever since. "If you have to think twice about something, it's usually a bad decision." His advice when I was young has kept me out of trouble through high school, and will continue to keep me out of trouble through college.

"As cliché as it sounds, but favorite player is my father. He played 4 sports in high school and was recognized by the state in all 4 sports. He's very humble and did not play for the purpose of winning, but for the purpose of growing and achieving goals he set for himself. I hope to be half the person he is one day.

"Outside of my father, my favorite professional athlete is J. J. Hardy. He's not the quickest or the most athletic short stop, but he's excellent at what he does."
