MIRANDA KINNEY

Ninth committed recruit
Miranda Kinney, “a strong bat,
a quality arm”, signed as Wolverine

Now there are nine – officially!

Miranda Kinney from Liberty High School in Bethlehem, PA, signed today as the last of the nine committed Wesley Wolverine fastpitch freshman for the 2017-2018 year.

Miranda is a catcher/ first base player who currently takes the field for Pennsylvania's Liberty High Hurricanes and the Phantoms Elite 18U travel team.

Miranda Kinney
“Miranda brings with her a strong bat, a quality arm and the ability to contribute in a number of areas on the field,” affirms Wolverine Head Coach Juli Greep.

The Wolverine graduating class leaves several open positions to fill across the diamond – infield, outfield, and pitching as well as a considerable loss of lumber at the plate to drive runs home.

“Those are very big shoes to fill but we believe players like Miranda will help in the transition and bridge the gap,” noted Coach Greep.

“The 2017-2018 season should be a fun and exciting one as we welcome 9 new faces to the program.”

For those Wolverine fans who have not kept count, the nine 2017 fall freshmen – 4 from Pennsylvania, 3 from New Jersey and 2 from Maryland -- are:

2017 recruit SS/ CF Bianca Newsom (Edison, NJ)
2017 recruit P/ UT Abbey Mayse (Cecilton, MD)
2017 recruit OF Kelly Palmer (Hershey, PA)
2017 recruit P/ 1B Julianna Neel (Haddon Township, NJ)
2017 recruit P/ 1B Dori Loukopoulos (Chambersburg, PA)
2017 recruit 1B/ 3B/ C Mykayla Bird-Clahar (Egg Harbor City, NJ)
2017 recruit C/ 1B Miranda Kinney (Bethlehem PA)
2017 recruit OF Amanda Curry (Williamsport, MD)
2017 recruit P/OF Zoee Garis (Lebanon, PA)

Williamsport, MD, is a beautiful town of central-north Maryland. It was founded on a famed Native American trail that today hosts visitors to its historic Potomac C&O Canal and its unique small town shops, which are heralded "an experience you can’t find anywhere else."

Amanda Curry
It's also home to an exciting prospect, now the official Wesley Wolverines 9th softball recruit of 2017.

She's multisport athlete  Amanda Curry of Williamsport High School Wildcats' softball, track and soccer teams.

"She's fast and athletic outfielder," noted Wolverine Head Coach Juli Greep
"She is a multi-year varsity starter and last year was named to the All-County team."

Her grades are exceptional, near the top of her class, from hard work in mostly honors and AP classes.

Amanda is a leader, too. She has served as captain on a couple of her high school teams as well as for her travel club, the Susquehanna Valley Slam where she plays alongside fellow 2017 Wolverine signee Kelly Palmer.

"We look forward to having such a well-rounded athlete as part of next season," said Coach Greep.

Next year's Wesley Wolverines keep growing!

This time it's the addition of a good glove, a reliable bat and speed around the bases!

It's Kelly Palmer from Hershey, PA, where she has been roaming left field as a three-year varsity letter winner heading into her senior season for the Lower Dauphin High School Falcons.

Kelly signed her letter of intent for Wesley College on national signing day this past week.

"We are thrilled to have Kelly joining our 2017 class," said Head Coach Juli Greep. "She is a very talented outfielder with speed, a great arm, and reads the ball really well."

Kelly's high school takes special pride in their athletes. Signing along side Kelly were twelve fellow students representing eight sports for colleges and universities near and far. A crowd of parents, coaches, teachers and classmates all joined in the ceremony.

The high school also takes their softball very seriously. The Falcon fastpitch team has won their AAAA districts for the last 9 years in a row. Kelly has been a unfailing contributor to the team's success.

"Offensively Kelly has the potential to add another extremely consistent bat with power to our lineup," added Coach Greep. "She has the ability to turn singles into doubles, and doubles into triples with her speed around the base path."

The DuPont Softball Field grass is waiting for her!

"Our outfield will be missing significant parts upon our seniors' graduation (Lily Engel and Casey Beall), and Kelly is an excellent person to help bridge the gap," said Coach Greep.

Kelly plans to major in nursing.

National signing day is a big event at Kelly Palmer's Lower Dauphin High School. Here she is joined by parents, coaches, teachers and classmates to congratulate her as a new Wesley Wolverine!
