OLD FENCE TORN DOWN

Field closer to fans in stands!
DuPont softball field
gets a new look for 2017

New fence is 6 feet tall compared to last season's 4 foot height. The field dimensions are now: Left field 192 ft. (last year 224 ft.)/ center field 220 ft. (last year 229 ft.)/ right field remains the same at 192 ft.

Pitchers and fielders will miss the old fence, while power hitters will embrace the new look! Pictured lower right Assistant Coach Brooke Donovan.

NEW FENCES FOR SOFTBALL

New fence, new dimensions
Wolverine season may bring
more dingers at DuPont Field

A border may or may not need a wall, but softball fields definitely need a fence!

► New fence for softball field

Softball fences come in all sizes, shapes, designs and distances from home plate, often dictating game strategy for coaches and players alike.

Some chain link makes it difficult for a ball to leave the park, while other boundaries, like what appears to be happening at Wesley College's DuPont Softball Field, may well watch many a softball soaring high and deep easily sail off as a fourbagger.

New scoreboard for 2017 season.
Late last year, the Wesley Wolverines receive a new scoreboard for the 2017 season.

Now a new outfield fence is being installed. It will remake how fly balls are run down and possibly set new goals for power hitters at the plate.

► New dimensions for the field

First, the new fence will be a full two feet higher than in the past, moving from four to six feet tall from right to left field.

Second, left field is the BIG change. Now it is a short porch set at just 192 feet from home. In past seasons, it has been a more distant and challenging 224 feet. The average outfield dimension on most women's collegiate fastpitch fields is 220 feet.

The new center field will extend to 220 feet, but that's nine feet shorter than the previous 229 feet. Right field remains the same as before at 192 feet.

A new windscreen covers and hides the metal construction.

"I’m predicting you’ll see a lot more homers this year on DuPont field!" said Head Coach Juli Greep.

WESLEY was on the cusp of making the CAC Tournament in 2016 and is looking for its first postseason appearance in the program’s tenure in the CAC.

The Wolverines return two
